The Philippines is the second-largest producer of pineapples in the world after Thailand. Pineapple is not native to the Philippines, but since the tropical environment has proven ideal for plantations - some of the world's biggest pineapple plantations (Del Monte and Dole) are found here.
How long does it take to grow a pineapple? Tops take about 24 months to fruit (even longer in colder climates). Suckers take about 18 months and slips can fruit within a year. Generally, a pineapple will flower as soon as it is big enough, so the happier it is and the better you look after it the sooner it will flower.
