Beef tenderloin, also known as filet mignon, is a prime cut of beef known for its tenderness and mild flavor. It is located in the loin area of the animal, near the backbone. The tenderloin is one of the most sought-after cuts of beef and is often considered a luxurious option for special occasions or fine dining.

Here's a simple recipe for preparing beef tenderloin:

Ingredients:

  • Beef tenderloin roast
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Olive oil
  • Optional: herbs or spices of your choice (such as garlic powder, rosemary, or thyme)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Take the beef tenderloin out of the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  3. Season the tenderloin generously with salt and pepper on all sides. If desired, you can also add additional herbs or spices.
  4. Heat a large oven-safe skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat and add a small amount of olive oil.
  5. Sear the beef tenderloin on all sides in the hot pan, turning it with tongs to ensure even browning. This step helps develop a flavorful crust on the meat.
  6. Once seared, transfer the skillet to the preheated oven.
  7. Roast the beef tenderloin in the oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness. For medium-rare, a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the tenderloin should read around 135-140°F (57-60°C). Remember that the internal temperature will continue to rise slightly as the meat rests.
  8. Remove the tenderloin from the oven and transfer it to a cutting board. Tent it loosely with aluminum foil and let it rest for about 10 minutes. Resting allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.
  9. After resting, slice the beef tenderloin into thick, even slices and serve.

Beef tenderloin pairs well with a variety of side dishes such as roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh salad. Enjoy your meal!
